Basic Terms
For every file that is being shared, there are users categorized as seeders or leechers. A seed is a user who has 100% of a file available and is uploading to other users to download. Leechers are users who have only parts of a file available and are downloading from other users to complete their file. Once that is done, they themselves become seeders. The total number of seeders and leechers sharing a file are within what is known as a swarm.
This means that the more seeds that a file has the quicker it will be for a user to finish downloading. Generally there are more leechers than seeders for torrents. Don’t worry if the number of leechers in the swarm outnumbers the seeds; this is perfectly normal. If you have 0 seeds though, you may have trouble completing your file or you might have to wait for users within the swarm to share enough parts to have a complete file for a user to become a seed.
