EasyDrama + Company

Great Teacher Onizuka, aka GTO, came out in 1998 and is based on a manga and anime series with the same name. It is also the sequel to the manga Shonan Love Gang.

GTO is another school drama that is very much like Gokusen. Both teachers in those series have deliquent students who they need to set straight. Both teachers have some kind of gang related background. The main difference is that one’s male and one’s female. ^_^

This drama was actually pretty successful. A special was released for this series as well as a movie. For the full synopsis check out:

In my previous post, I referenced Seito Shokun being similar to dramas such as Gokusen so I thought to post that series as well for those who haven’t seen it yet. Even though it’s not my favorite drama, whenever I start a series I try to finish it.

Seito Shokun! came out about 2 years ago in 2007 and it’s about a teacher who never gives up on her students. To sum it up, it’s very similar to dramas such as Gokusen and Great Teacher Onizuka.

To be honest, I think those dramas are quite predictable and are not among my favorites but since Horikita Maki was in it I thought I’d give it a shot. For the full synopsis check out:

Hanazakari no Kimitachi e, also known as Hana Kimi, is originally a manga which developed into a drama about a girl Ashiya Mizuki (Horikita Maki) who fell in love with a talented high jump athlete Sano Izumi (Oguri Shun) after a fate encounter in the US in which Sano had been injured.

Upon returning to Japan, Sano decided to give up high jumping. Mizuki feels that it was all her fault and disguises herself as a boy to attend Sano’s all male school to try and encourage him to high jump again. How will things turn out? Watch to find out!

This drama came out waaaaay back in 1996 and is one of the oldest dramas that I have ever seen. Like all dramas of a different era, it’s interesting to see the changes Jdrama has been through over the years.

Kimura Takuya plays a lead role in this drama and back then he was still in his mid 20s. Like in Hero, Fujima Takako also plays one of the main female characters in this drama along with Yamaguchi Tomoko. A young teenage Hirosue Ryoko also makes an appearance in some of the episodes!

Another great drama that came out in 2001 that features the oh so famous member of SMAP Kimura Takuya playing the part of an out of the ordinary prosecutor. Hiraku Utada sings the theme song for this drama and also makes a cameo in one of the episodes!

The general roles of males and females in a Japanese family are like that of the traditional American family. Men go to work and bring home the bacon while women stay at home to cook and clean and take care of the kids. In this drama the roles are reversed.

Kazayuki Yamamura played by Abe Hiroshi works at a major advertising agency and takes pride in his success. His wife Miki Yamamura played by Shinohara Ryoko is unemployed and is a stay at home mom.

One day Kazayuki is forced to quit his job and also becomes part of the unemployed. Around the same time Miki’s former employer contacted her and asked her to come back to work.

Without a source of income Miki had no choice and soon the two switch roles. Kazayuki has never done anything like that before and has trouble adjusting to be an at home dad. Fortunately for Kazayuki, his neighbor is also a stay at home dad and is more than willing to show him the routes!

Also known as the The Black Swindler this movies finishes up the series. The movie is raw with English softsubs provided. Media players such as VLC and Media Player Classic should have no problem playing it. If you ever have trouble viewing a video don’t forget to check out the Playback section!
